10:00 James Paul Gee Games, Minds, and Schools: Is it too Late?

James Paul Gee is Mary Lou Fulton Presidential Professor of Literacy Studies at Arizona State University and is considered one of the most influential researchers in the area of game studies. In his talk he will expand on his pivotal work on games for learning and examine educational challenges and opportunities derived from our new understanding of digital media culture.

11:00 Georg Glaeser Nature and Numbers

Georg Glaeser is Professor of Mathematics and Geometry at the Vienna University of Applied Arts. In the 1980s he pioneered the use of 3d graphics on early home computer systems such as the Commodore C64. In his talk he will share practical findings of his recent work on analyzing the mathematical structure of nature and the geometry of living objects.

Frank Lee is Associate Professor of Digital Media and Director of the Entrepreneurial Game Studio at Drexel. He is internationally known for creating the world’s largest architectural videogame display. In his talk he will show examples of recent projects of the Entrepreneurial Game Studio and explain how Drexel students can get involved in the studio’s activities.

Timothy Bowman is a visual effects artist whose feature film credits include work on Gravity, The Hunger Games, The Great Gatsby or The Wolverine. In his talk he will share some behind the scenes shot breakdowns from his work on Gravity, The Fault in Our Stars and Safe, as well as talk about navigating today’s VFX career landscape.
