A special, two part screening of “Curious Case of Benjamin Button” (2008) on Fridays, May 16 & 23, 2014 at 1pm in URBN 349 Screening Room, with discussion lead by Nick Jushchyshyn.
Students and faculty are invited and encouraged to attend the first of a two-part screening and discussion of “Curious Case of Benjamin Button” (2008) offered by Nick Jushchyshyn, presented by the Westphal Animation, Capture and Effects Lab (ACE-Lab).
Released in 2008, Curious Case of Benjamin Button won the Best Visual Effects Oscar, Best Special Visual Effects BAFTA and the Visual Effects Society’s coveted awards for Best Single Visual Effect of the Year and Outstanding Animated Character in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture among many other awards. The film achieved this not through the creation of flashy explosions, animals, aliens or robots, but instead by translating the likeness and performance of one of Hollywood’s most recognized actors, Brad Pitt, into a CG animated human character that was seamlessly integrated with the live performances and moving story of this dramatic and emotional film. The animation and effects were so convincing, they contributed to the film’s many Best Makeup awards and a Best Actor Oscar nomination for Brad Pitt.
Nick Jushchyshyn will be sharing lessons learned from the film, the techniques employed in its creation and the path of landing a job at a top facility working on an A-List film and how these lessons directly apply to preparing and staging your own path within a Digital Media based industry.
This unique two part screening and discussion will be held in The Urban Center Room 349 Screening Room from 1pm until 4pm, on Fridays, May 16 & 23, 2014.
About Nick Jushchyshyn:
Nick Jushchyshyn brings two decades of professional experience in visual effects, administration and technical fields to the Digital Media Department at Drexel University. His experience includes work on major feature films such as “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”, “I Am Number Four”, “Let Me In”, “The Last Air Bender” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” Outside of feature films, Nick’s freelance background also includes projects in television,commercial and advertising productions. He holds an MFA from the Academy of Art University, and a Bachelor’s in Science degree in Commerce & Engineering from Drexel University. In addition to working for studios such as Digital Domain and Dive Visual Effects, Nick as taught digital media and animation at the Academy of Art University and the Art Institute of Philadelphia.
