Welcome to DREXEL MOTION CAPTURE!
Founded in October 2018, we are a group dedicated to learning more about motion capture and its exciting applications!
Motion capture is the process of recording real-time movement and turning it into digital animation for games, movies, research, and more. This process has brought hundreds of characters to life, from Gollum to Thanos to even the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park! In addition to the entertainment industry, motion capture is also a valuable tool for gait analysis and biomechanics.
With access to industry-standard tools such as Vicon and OptiTrack Motion Capture Systems, our club allows all undergraduate and graduate majors at Drexel University to partake in this growing field! Our meetings consist of motion capture shoots, talks with industry professionals, and many opportunities to learn about all facets of the motion capture process, including but not limited to, acting, directing, animation principles, cleaning data, hardware/software.
We meet on MoCap Mondays from 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM during the odd numbered weeks of Fall, Winter, and Spring Terms (Weeks 1, 3, 5, 7, 9). When in person, we meet in the MoCap Studio (URBN 246) in the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. During remote learning, we meet on Zoom, link shared in our Discord.
